Hi. My name is Carolee, and I'm an addict.
When I'm not making art, I'm online chatting about it, dissecting it, obsessing about it, and even as I create one piece, jonesing for the next.
The house frequently looks like a war zone, and while I'm happy to chat on the phone (can do that as I paint), I've completely stopped answering the front door.
There isn't a room in the house (save maybe the bathroom) that isn't filled with projects in varying stages of completion, and I own very few pieces of clothing not covered in paint.
Do you suppose there's a rehab for this?
Do I care?
Am I alone? (doubting this, hehe)....
What do you suppose it is that keeps us addicted? I know there are people out there who don't feel the need to create something, but how is that possible? How does one get through the day, nevermind life, without it?
Pondering this as I return to the studio, where several pieces are in progress, and others are waiting in the wings...
The breakfast dishes can wait. ;-)

I have been VERY good this week, painting madly AND doing the breakfast dishes! This is new territory for me, and it's quite exciting!
ReplyDeleteThose of us who don't have the talent to create the art are addicted to collecting the art of you who are addicted to creating it. Thank goodness for all of us enablers!! LOL
ReplyDeleteSo true! Yes, I think we're all addicted to art!.. or, is it a disease? lol
ReplyDeleteYup, the life of an artist.
ReplyDeleteThank God you are an addict! We love your work!

ReplyDeletei don't count sheep....i conjure up hats. or jewelry. i am distracted by thoughts of works in progress and works demanding to be made. it IS a sickness :D
ReplyDeleteMore proof we all need a staff :) I know how you feel, even if most of my artsy stuff is confined to one room it *still* manages to take over!
ReplyDeleteAnd what fun it is!
I have tried to explain this very thing to my hubby many times... I justify it by saying " I like having alot going on because then I feel super productive" but honestly I just love having my hands covered in paint/glue/ink/ or any other crating agent. Keep up the good work!

Loved your post but it left me wondering what problem you're writing about. Doesn't everyone live like this? And isn't that what a dishwasher is for?
ReplyDeleteAs for the people who have no need to create ...or to collect our creations, you have to feel sorry for them! They were obviously born with a vial gene missing.
hugs Karin
Carolee, I would rather paint than make dinner for my family. You don't need rehab. Everyone should have a passion for something. Keep it up!
